Just shy of being two months in on the Island, and, to celebrate another trip round the sun, we had din dins at Legligin and it was brilliant. Chris and his team create a ‘homemade’ taster menu experience and it is delicious! We decided to give it a go for a late lunch, just to be sure that our first experience was not a fluke. (we seriously doubted it because Man like Chris has been doing this food ting for a while ha!) You know that lovely the feeling you get when you are welcomed into a place of business or anywhere, like an old friend?  Yeah, that was Chris today! Bless him..

We sampled a few of the dishes (and trust me we were spoiled for choice) because chef had cooked up a storm for this menu😱! We started our meal with pumpkin soup which was ‘serve yourself’; a generous bowl of this goodness placed in front of us with serving spoon and bowls to enjoy as much as we want. The broth had a distinct saltiness of fish, not overly strong which was balanced by the bread and olive oil.

A selection of cold tapas came next – pork cuts, germania cheese, smoked local sausage, olives with garlic, aioli aubergines with ricotta cheese and walnuts. I mean hellor! I really should have remembered that tapas is a Legligin thing!

Layering the sausage with fig chutney and cheese was the perfect combination of flavours. The stronger taster of the germania cheese was balanced and somewhat nulled (if you like) by the figs, ultimately altering the savoury sweet with a hint of smokiness, ugh loooovvveedddd!!!!! The warmer or shall I say, hot tapas, were fish cake and pistachio lasagne.

Do you see this cheesy layered goodness. We reckon that lasagne is the chef’s speciality, Honest! Our first time here, we had three yummy different variations and this did not disappoint!

Pasta with beef and mushroom did exactly what it was supposed to do. Pasta was perfectly cooked, the mushrooms not overcooked and still had a bite to it. The tuna was stuffed with anchovies and cappers. The couscous was served like ‘fried rice’ and salad accompanied by a side of mussels in lemon and garlic! Rabbit that reminded me of Sunday roast with mashed potatoes, veggies and cream sauce .Yep! it was a case of death by dishes, Chris and his team are what I call FEEDERS! Food is definitely their love language!

Cake, a petit selection of savoury delights and frangelico to end the meal

Phew! It was a darn feast of fantastic food made with love from home made recipes and I am HERE for it 😋😀🥰! As a personal choice, I generally don’t reference costs of our meals because it’s not really the point, it’s more than that for us. It’s the joy, the skill, craft, and experience. However, if value for money was a place? LEGLIGIN is IT!

The mismatched china reminiscent of your grandma’s  will make you feel like you are eating at her table. What’s not to love? You lot know you have to give it a try whenever you are on this side of the world!

Cheers
